Tracey (left) and Vance Marino met at a concert at the famous Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California. They started talking after they realized they had been stood up by their friends. But it was soon clear they could work with, and learn from, each other's various musical backgrounds. After setting up two Pro Tools studios, they became full-time Songwriters, Composers, Musicians, Producers, and most recently Authors in San Diego, California.
The Marinos' new book, Hey! That's My Song! A Guide to Getting Music Placements in Film, TV, and Media, was published by Roman & Littlefield/Backbeat Books/Globe Pequot, and is available on Amazon Books and through all major bookstores. It is a #1 Best Seller in Songwriting and was a #1 New Release in Music Business and in Songwriting on Amazon. The Marinos spent many years passionately honing their craft and attending countless music conventions and events. They wanted to share their knowledge and experiences with others who are interested in the sync music world.
Tracey, a singer, keyboardist, and classically trained pianist who studied with the late Grammy winner Concert Pianist Earl Wild and Composer/Conductor of the La Jolla Chamber Music Society John Garvey, is originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and lived in Houston, Texas, as a child. She plays many different types of instruments including harpsichord, pipe organ, calliope, and percussion.
Vance, a singer and seasoned lead rock, blues, and country guitarist, is originally from Oahu, Hawaii. He lived and toured with his band in Phoenix, Arizona, before settling in San Diego. He studied music and theory at Kamehameha School and Leeward College. Besides guitar, Vance plays bass, drums, percussion, keyboards, ukulele, resonator guitar (Dobro), banjo, mandolin, guitalele, banjolele, bouzouki, tzouras, and other stringed instruments.
With more than 3,000 titles in their BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) catalog, the Marinos have had hundreds of music placements in film, TV, video games, broadcast commercials, websites, film trailers, and theatre productions.
Tracey and Vance are regular contributing columnists and bloggers for music newsletters and have been in-person panelists and guest lecturers for several songwriting and composing groups in San Diego, Nashville, and Los Angeles, and online throughout the United States and the globe.
As a way to give back to the songwriting community, Tracey and Vance Marino are members of many music organizations including the Society of Composers and Lyricists and SCL SongArts Committee, the Production Music Association, the California Copyright Conference, the Association of Independent Music Publishers, and Friends of the Guild of Music Supervisors, National Music Publishers Association, and others.
In the fall of 2012, they volunteered to be the coordinators of the San Diego NSAI Chapter (Nashville Songwriters Association International), a not-for-profit organization that teaches the craft of writing songs and lyrics. NSAI owns and operates the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville where many hit songwriters got their start.
