BIOS THE MARINOS: VANCE & TRACEY JAMES MARINO have been a duo since they met May 15, 1995. That night, at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, San Diego, they started talking after they realized each of their dates had stood them up. They've been writing, producing, and performing music together ever since. In addition to composing, they each have extensive experience directing choirs and orchestras and arranging music. TRACEY JAMES MARINO is a full-time, singer-songwriter-pianist originally from Boston, MA, who started playing piano at age 4. A professional musician since the age of 10, she has sung and played piano for Chelsea Clinton, Jewel, Mandy Patinkin, Jerry Jones, Roseanne Barr, among others. She earned a B.A. from San Diego State University, studying journalism and music composition. Tracey has perfect pitch and can usually play a song after hearing it once or twice. Although classically trained as a child, she would never play the pieces exactly as written. This frustrated all of her piano teachers except one who was a composer himself. He encouraged her to not only play classical music completely by ear, but to compose original songs. VANCE MARINO is a singer, guitarist, bassist, and drummer who began his professional music career at the age of 16. A native Hawaiian, Vance started playing the guitar when he was 10 and became proficient on many different instruments while attending Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaii's Leeward College. He became fascinated with recording when he was in junior high school. In 1989, Vance formed a popular San Diego blues-rock band "Four On The Floor" and was the lead guitarist, singer, and arranger. For the past several years, he has enjoyed teaching bass, as well as lead, rhythm, electric, and classical guitar at Ozzie's, a well-known music store in Poway, CA. He also plays for the weekly Saturday afternoon high-tea hour at the famed Rancho Bernardo Inn & Resort.
